Fleet Maintenance Supervisor
Dan Abeyta , Master Fire Mechanic III

Supervisor Abeyta was appointed to his position with the North County Fire Protection District in 1996.

His scope of responsibility is to insure the fire districts fleet of fire/emergency apparatus are “ready to respond at a moments notice”. This includes fire engines, ambulances and staff cars. He also provides training such as fire pumps, air brakes, etc. to fire department personnel.

Background: Dan has over 35 years of heavy duty diesel powered equipment training, 20 of which are fire service related.

Employment:
Dan worked as a school bus mechanic for the Huntington Beach and Oceanside School Districts prior to coming to North County Fire. He also worked for Detroit Diesel and John Deere machinery.

Education:
Dan graduated high school and attended a diesel trade school along with vocational classes at Fullerton Junior College.

Affiliations:
Dan served as the Board Secretary from 1995-2002 to the Southern California Fire Mechanics Association established in 1967. He authored a monthly publication and established a modern new format and called it “The Fire Mech Reporter” which is used statewide today. Dan has served as an Instructor at California Fire Mechanics Academy.

Awards:
Dan placed fifth statewide with an accredited Level III Master Fire Mechanic Certification in fire equipment from the California State Fire Marshalls Training and Education System. Dan achieved the coveted honor of becoming the first California state certified Level II Fire Mechanic in 1994.

Dan and his team of hand picked Certified Fire Service Mechanics are always on the cutting edge of fire apparatus technology. The team offers repairs and mutual aid to surrounding fire departments that do not have a fleet maintenance center.

Jerry Austerman came to NCFPD in 2002 with 25 years plus in fire apparatus repair.

Dan Nieto came in 2004 with 20 years plus in diesel powered equipment repair.

Dan and his team of hand picked Certified Fire Service Mechanics are always on the cutting edge of fire apparatus technology. The team offers repairs and mutual aid to surrounding fire departments that do not have a fleet maintenance center.
